SML: Cut it out and Hydrangea Hippo

The weekly challenge at Sew Many Layouts was to create a layout where everything was cut by hand. The design team was also gifted with products from Hydrangea Hippo to play with. If you haven't heard of Hydrangea Hippo, you need to check them out! The kit that they sent was packed with pre-cut papers, plastic and paper doo-dads, ribbon, sequins, and stick pins. I really enjoyed this fun kit. I spread out the material over these two layouts and still had leftovers!

On this first layout about my now five year-old's first sleepover, I used ribbons, sequins, and embellishments from the Hydrangea Hippo kit as well as paper that I handcut from the new Fancy Pants About A Girl line. The SMC image is this snail.

This page I created for my son's seventh birthday. 75% or so of the materials used were Hydrangea Hippo. Birthday Fishes is one of my favorite images from Sew Many!

Stop by the challenge site to see the design team creations and submit your own!

Time is running out to purchase your kit to play along with our upcoming challenge (you won't HAVE to use the kit to participate, but you will get more entries if you do!)...

Scraptivity challenge #2

This challenge was to use green and bling on a layout. I had been wanting to complete a layout on my dad for some time, so this was a great chance. The lyrics are from Robbie Schaefer's song "Arnie". The ribbon on the right-hand side is meant to be pulled to reveal hidden journaling.

SML March recipe challenge

Another recipe challenge this week. We were to use a staple, paper clip, sticky note, and newspaper in our layouts. I always use these recipe challenges to actually scrapbook a recipe because I keep a scrapbook in the kitchen, too.

As an added bonus, Foxes and Robbers gave us the two awesome tags to incorporate into our layouts. I was torn about using the crown tag on this layout or the one that I'll be doing for next week's challenge, but I ultimately decided on this one.

I chose the baby Jaden SMC image since my recipe was for baby pizza puffs.

Be sure to check out the rest of the design team layouts HERE.

Tags

I started tagging all of my photo files yesterday. I organize my pictures in folders by year, then month, and, sometimes, event (if it's a significant one). Now, I'm tagging all of the pictures with the year, people in them, and event. I'm only through 2005. This is going to take awhile. *sigh*

I would love for you to comment below on how you organize your digital picture files.

I used a sheet of Mary Engelbreit paper from Creative Imaginations that I have saved for several years now. The journal tags are from the Sweet Life collection, and the other die cuts are October Afternoon.

SML Name Challenge

Hello. My name is Heather, and I am addicted to Facebook. I've been wanting for some time to create one of those scrapbook pages showing my facebook statuses for the year, and this was the perfect chance to do one! For my take, I organized my favorite statuses into categories because I wanted the viewer to be able to tell specific things about me right away. The categories that
I came up with were "Heather is..." a mom, a good wife, Catholic, a sports fan, always up for fun, and human (for those moments where I wasn't at my best!). I used the amazing March 2010 kit, titled Cartoon, from Dixie Pieces for this layout. You can see the rest of the design team layouts HERE. The SMC image is Fawn Easter Fishes. Play along with us this week (there is also a layout challenge- details on the site!)... I would love to see your creations!

Also wanted to remind you of this upcoming challenge:

Scraptivity Spring Card challenge

I'm participating in the Spring Fling contest over at Scraptivity. The challenge for week #1 was to create a spring card. I made this one for the upcoming open house that we are going to hold to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary. I found out that Evite allows you to upload your own designs, so I'm going to play around with putting this image on there. The card uses the amazing March 2010 kit, Cartoon, from Dixie Pieces.

Huge winner at Dixie Pieces

The Beat the Blues winter crop at Dixie Pieces was SO much fun. There were games, scrappy talk, and tons of challenges. I have had so much fun getting to know the awesome girls that hang out there. Each game win and challenge was worth an entry to win the March kit and a HUGE box of goodies from CHA Winter. Lucky me, I won! I received the box last week and have had the best time unwrapping and playing with everything. Over the next two days, I'm going to show you two things that I created with the kit. Seriously, as kits go, this one is PACKED and totally reasonably priced. Check it out here. Stay tuned for my creations.

Sew Many Layouts Blog Hop

The SML design team is celebrating National Craft Month, and there will be a DRAWING at the end of the hop. Want to enter?

1 random winner of a free st. patty's day digi image will be chosen for leaving a comment posting our banner/challenge blog blinkie

1 random winner will receive a set of digis from SMC for leaving a comment on everyone's blog and the SML blog

AND

1 Grand Prize winner will receive this SEI Product Pack from Sew Many Cards- you must create a project using a technique introduced to them on the hop along with an SMC image of your choice. Layouts can be submitted to the Sew Many Layouts Blog.

My technique to share with you is on using anything and everything in your artwork. Don't feel limited by only those items that you find in your LSS (yes, we all know the argument about keeping everything "acid free" but sometimes rules are meant to be broken!). In the below layout, I used the following random items:
- an "admit one" ticket that I saved from an event
- a skeleton key purchased at Lowe's
- a scrap of my bedroom curtain that was shredded by my cat
- corrugated cardboard
- a scrap book page
- a label from a bottle of Starbucks caramel sauce

Isn't the SMC donkey adorable?

Ready to hop around? Start at the SML Challenge Blog. Already participating? Your next stop is Mary's blog.

My Scrapbooking Supplies Blog Hop

Hello and welcome to my part of the My Scrapbooking Supplies Blog Hop!!! I am so excited about our new blog and the members of this design team. I hope you have been enjoying and playing along with the challenges.

I am a big fan of using what you have, so I thought I would show you a quick way to create 4 cards in under 20 minutes. I started with this pile of supplies, geared towards small children, since I just used up my last baby card and wanted to restock:

4 pre-scored cards, sized 4" by 5", one sheet of patterned paper, paper from my scrap pile, and miscellaneous embellishments from my stash.

I cut the full sheet into 5 pieces: four 4x5 pieces and one 2" strip leftover as scrap. Then, I took the blue scrap and cut two 3x4 pieces for the boy cards. For the girl cards, I just assembled the scraps randomly. Once I placed the embellishments and added some bling to the girl cards (because all girls need something sparkly!), I was done... in under 20 minutes, using some of my saved scraps, and without spending a dime of additional money at the store.

As part of the blog hop, I am giving away this RAK...

To be entered in the random drawing, leave a comment on this post, and I will randomly draw a winner by Friday, March 5th!

After you have visited all the blogs and posted a comment, please be sure to go back to My Scrapbooking Supplies and post that you are finished. Thanks for playing!
