Journaling:
<span style="color: #333333; font-family: "Tahoma","sans-serif"; font-size: 8pt; line-height: 115%;">You slept through it all, but at 1:51pm on August 23, we had an earthquake. B was on the computer playing on the American Girl website, and Z and I were playing Brain Quest. I initially thought it was a truck or motorcycle next door or a train out back, until Z asked what that noise was. I never before imagined an earthquake as being loud, but it definitely had a dull roar to it. After I few seconds, I said, “I think it’s an earthquake,” and B screamed. I didn’t think until afterwards that we should have headed to the downstairs bathroom, but we huddled together in the living room until it passed. It probably lasted 30-40 seconds, but I was grateful once I could tell it was subsiding. Daddy was at work and went outside after the plants and shelves started shaking. I can’t imagine living somewhere that this occurs often. Ridiculously, I once said that I wished I could be in a small earthquake just to know what it felt like… I hope that’s the only one that ever finds me. While it wasn’t terrifying, it definitely disturbed the big kids because there were lots of questions for the rest of the day about how earthquakes happen. Just days after the earthquake, Hurricane Irene went through, and we lost power for almost 2 full days… played LOTS of games on Saturday, lit candles, and made shadow puppets.ScrappingMomOf3http://www.blogger.com/profile/14154079730251726312noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2088521459205648713.post-57988715552164723552013-01-04T16:09:00.004-05:002013-01-04T16:09:00.950-05:00LYM: HeadlinesMy last layout for last year's copy of Log Your Memory...

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4aTszApq1BsHGxVPHpovJi3lSJDnPSXPCatAHpSVFL17zBYad0UcafcPB5v6nHEv4HgXB1plxODRik1qms1GYAYtuQs4W0XtEwxXKdD-p3gTspf0yLCh5P9y_iMOVhDIeDmVEJejgQ68/s320/DSC_4763+-+small.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5657878409232037058" />

Title: The Year You Were Born

Journaling:
Barack Obama was inaugurated as the 44th president of the United States.

NASA discovered water on the Moon.

Michael Jackson, the King of Pop, died at age 50.

US Airways jetliner made an emergency landing on the Hudson River, and everyone aboard survived.

Swine flu sickened millions of people.

The Pittsburgh Steelers won the Super Bowl and the New York Yankees won the World Series (horrible sports year for Daddy!).

National Averages:
House price: $258,000
Price of a gallon of gas: $2.57
Price of a gallon of milk: $3.80

Supplies: Scrapdango May 2011 Sugar kit (patterned paper: Crate Paper; embellishments: Bo Bunny, Bella Blvd., My Mind’s Eye)ScrappingMomOf3http://www.blogger.com/profile/14154079730251726312noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2088521459205648713.post-79797120979280405412013-01-03T11:18:00.012-05:002013-01-03T11:18:01.090-05:00LYM: Transportation 2Each LYM designer had one layout featured in the book and accompanying ideas for three other topics. This was my featured layout...

My family loves to travel... near or far; happy or whiny; by plane, train, or car.

Years ago, I read an article where Tim Russert talked about traveling the world with his son, showing him different areas of the country, how people could be different but were really still the same. It resonated with me, and my husband and I set a goal for our kids to see all 50 states before they start college.

We live on the East Coast, so we've covered a lot already.... my oldest two kids have about 30 states each on their tally. We analyze maps and routes and activities to make the most of each of our trips. No lazy beach bums in this house (although, I really do think that sounds like heaven)!

We're a family on a mission!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 214px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhr-aVhig70G2vsFSxmjnypmoZ8fiqx6D31lz8dm4vQIb28lubHI2tz01_wadH5AEyywNXc0FGSCqp0JmNrpQ4k7H4-qbw8VkP1k5a3Kg7hNSlY6WNlqfOkj1ZOrgv1mQPXy0TmGBqv1rc/s320/DSC_3155.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5668509762145832530" />

(here's a pic of my two big kids in Times Square on our most recent trip.)

Happy travels!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 314px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVh7sSjZZH7ojgLvwMHVAq69Cq0SAY21KHbPMHhv3NhmOqwxwOl2k5LYvqFTjviORPAXIWPZTxnzZ7oui-JHLFwrXF3K2poQ762RItUg7RqG55i3rz7R1fbmAXaRH2D0DnPBnLoSRgFoI/s320/DSC_4584+-+smaller.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5656317136986323122" />
Title: Around the World
Journaling: We've made it a priority to expose you kids to as many different areas pf the country (and the world) as possible. Knowing that traffic is terrible between here and New York City, we dreaded driving. The mandatory bathroom and meal breaks plus slow-moving highways, tolls, parking, and gas expenses forced us to think outside the box. Amtrak gave the kids more leg room, the ability to walk around, and a café car. Our total round-trip Amtrak expenses for the trip were just over $400… for all of us (and my mom) together… only slightly more than if we drove.
With the exception of the boat to the Statue of Liberty, it was all trains- light-rail, subway, or commuter train. Though it might have been easier at certain points to take a cab, we stayed on the train-plan, and it worked beautifully. The kids were pros at standing on the subways before we left and even knew which trains to look for when we needed to transfer. If only we could ditch our car at home and take a train everywhere!
Supplies:
Scrapdango August 2011 Sugar kit (manufacturers: Authentique, Teresa Collins), Little Yellow Bicycle, Heidi Grace, Jenni Bowlin, Bazzill: http://www.scrapdango.comScrappingMomOf3http://www.blogger.com/profile/14154079730251726312noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2088521459205648713.post-90833738377482061382013-01-01T07:29:00.003-05:002013-01-01T07:29:00.625-05:00LYM: PursuitsI was a designer at Log Your Memory for 2012. Now that the year is over, I'm sharing the layouts that I created for it. Here's the first...
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiV2kfUHXYqM4Eh_1kqPeYZMQXu4W3gnWJ3-Ho1njDngsibpU6-ow8u_Zv8B2Dy7TYitTcIIHAWvFJ6BVHWo7AQK6lWHGyMeumSxjDApeaxu7mhhRq-NcWumKSBIg7qf8r4sXtIYgMpMG0/s320/DSC_4168-smaller.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5652176230869325826" />
I’ve always been a busy person. Even when I was little, my parents saw to it that I was involved in things outside of school to learn, meet friends, or help others. In grade school, they signed me up for soccer (for which I was not cut out but was lucky enough to experience having my dad as my coach), Brownies, dance, choir, and church missions. When I was 12, enough people must have thought I was pretty responsible because I babysat often.
A little later on, when I really started making my own choices, I continued with the church groups but became very active in band: playing clarinet and serving as the drum major for the marching band. I signed up for Beta club to round out my college applications. I was really excited to get a job when I was 16, shelving books at the public library.
In college, I probably juggled too much: I continued in band, was the business manager for a musical theatre group, worked at least 10 hours a week, interned at a brokerage… I could go on and on.
After getting married, I taught as a catechist in our church and thought about playing in a community band, but I decided to serve as a board member for Prevent Child Abuse instead. More recently, I’ve served as the chairperson of the Pastoral Council, co-chair of the PTO, and a member of the Moms Group and baptism committee.
As a child, I didn’t have to continue in something if I didn’t want to, but once I signed up for something, my parents made sure that I saw it through. I hope that through my commitments as well as the ones that they make, my own kids also value being an involved, dependable person.
Supplies:
Scrapdango July 2011 Sugar kit (manufacturers: Bo Bunny, Simple Stories, Bazzill, Prima): http://www.scrapdango.comScrappingMomOf3http://www.blogger.com/profile/14154079730251726312noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2088521459205648713.post-25712148452129271902012-11-15T10:43:00.002-05:002012-11-15T10:43:59.732-05:00Sea World San Antonio
We live less than an hour from Williamsburg, so for my Mother's Day present, I wanted to take her to see Felicity's world first hand.
For the two double layouts below, I designed the pages to be viewed vertically for a change. It reminds me of a newspaper, and, since we met a printer in Williamsburg, it was very appropriate for this subject.
I've even made one before.
But, this one is different. When I first saw this, I knew I had to have one. It just took awhile to get it done.
It might be my favorite thing that I've ever created. I just treasure these little ones so much and can't stand how fast they are growing.
Off to hang it beside my bed now!
